Therapy for Executives and Leaders

Depth-oriented psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Telehealth throughout New York State.

You have logged the development hours. You can describe the pattern better than most coaches can. You are still running it.

That is not a skill deficit. A skill improves with a new organization, a new team, higher stakes. A pattern that survives all of that was formed under conditions that no longer exist and has never been updated. It is still answering a threat as though the threat were live — and it is being generated one level below where coaching, feedback, and self-awareness operate.

That level is where I work.

45-minute sessions, weekly, by secure video anywhere in New York State.

Change what insight alone has not — you can explain the pattern precisely and it persists. That is information about what level it lives on.

Hear what has stopped reaching you — what arrives at your desk has been calibrated to what you have shown you can absorb.

Stay clear without carrying it forward — the remark still lands. The charge does not get stored.

This is not coaching or leadership training

Most executive development operates one level above where the problem is generated. Coaching, feedback, self-awareness — all of it addresses the part of the person that already
knows what is happening, not the root cause of why it’s happening.

You can describe the pattern with precision, locate where it came from, name what sets it off, but still see no change at all. This is because the response is not at the level where the description is happening.

That is the whole difference.

We look at the level below where the problem occurs, and where your response builds. That’s the pattern and that is the level where we get to work.

Nothing has broken. That is the normal condition here.

Most people come to treatment because something stopped working—a way of coping ran out, or a strategy that had held for years finally did not.

You do not need that. The career is intact. The performance is real. The way you handle pressure has been effective for twenty years. Nothing has failed, and something is still not moving.

That is a sufficient reason to start, and it is one reason people in your position often never do.

The explanations for the pattern are coherent: thoroughness, care, responsibility. Defensible executive virtues, sincerely reported. That is exactly what can keep the pattern invisible.

Achievement is unusually effective at outpacing what it does not resolve. By the time seniority arrives, the pattern may have been holding weight for decades. It is woven into what worked.

And by then, the pattern is no longer yours alone. It has shaped the people and systems around you.

What reaches you is never the situation

So, by the time something reaches your desk, it has already been shaped by years of your team learning what you can absorb and what costs too much to bring you.

You did not write that filter. You taught it through your responses. And the more senior the role, the more refined it becomes.

The silence at the table may look like alignment. The person who once brought hard news may now bring updates. The conversation that would have changed the decision may happen somewhere you are not.

Feedback does not necessarily solve this. It arrives through the same filter you are trying to understand.

The work is partly about becoming able to receive more of what is actually there.

Carrying weight and calling it steadiness

Two leaders can look identical across the table. Both composed. Both engaged. Both apparently steady.

But one may be meeting what comes at them with counter-force—a firmer tone, a harder position, a withdrawal. The hostility arrives and gets returned, or suppressed and stored.

Either way, the weight travels forward. It enters the next meeting. It shapes the tone weeks later. It follows you home.

The alternative is not detachment. The remark still lands. It is still felt. But the charge does not get stored. The next engagement starts clean. The weight has nowhere to rest.

What gets called burnout is often the accumulated cost of carrying something that has been load-bearing for years. What that thing is differs from one leader to the next. The work is finding out what it is actually made of.

Why I do this work

I hold a senior leadership position in a major metropolitan hospital, responsible for a division of approximately fifty staff.

That is not offered as fellow-feeling. It means I am inside the same structure you are. My own team has learned what I can absorb. What reaches me has been calibrated the same way, by the same mechanism, and I have had to work on what I am able to receive in order to change what arrives.

The method is psychoanalytic, and the frequency is what makes that register reachable at all.

A room with no stake in your performance

Everyone left in your life needs something from you. Your team needs leadership. Your board needs judgment. Your clients need confidence. Your family needs you to keep functioning.

Everyone needs you to hold.

That is the condition this room removes. You do not need to be impressive here, you do not need to have the answer, and you do not need to arrive with the problem already named.

What this is actually like

Sessions are 45 minutes, weekly, by secure video.

There is no framework, assessment instrument, or homework. You talk. We follow what is there.

You are used to arriving prepared, with the situation already analyzed. That habit will show up here too. But the prepared version is often the version that has already been through the filter.

I talk less than a coach or consultant. In the early months, much of the work is noticing what you do—in the room, in real time.

Change rarely announces itself. It tends to appear as something absent: a conversation that didn't cost what it used to, or a remark that landed and then didn't follow you home.

The practical details

Fee — $250 per session.

Frequency — weekly at minimum. Work of this depth sometimes asks for more, and that is generally something a person arrives at once they are in it rather than something decided in advance. We would take it up when the work indicates it.

Reduced fee — I hold a small number of reduced-fee slots. Whether one is open depends on the panel at the time you ask. When they are filled, the fee is the fee.

Insurance — I am an out-of-network provider. I can supply monthly superbills for possible reimbursement.

Format — secure telehealth for clients anywhere in New York State.

You have built a life that works

The question is what it costs to keep it running.

What was built holds everywhere. What was not, holds nowhere.

What was built for the boardroom holds in the kitchen — the leader who is deflecting all day is doing it at dinner too, on whatever sleep and whatever week they are bringing home.
